The region’s energy system is a a complex network of interconnected producers, pipelines, transmission and distribution lines, electricity substations, operational and business processes and supply chains.  These assets may be vulnerable to a variety of hazards in which a disruption could have cascading impacts to the public well being and economy of the region in both the U.S. and Canada. The Center has held several meetings that highlight the need to focus on increasing the resilience of the energy sector. See below for more information on PNWER Energy Assurance and Resilience initiatives.

Ensuring Regional Awareness of Energy Issues

The 2011 PNWER Annual Summit featured a session devoted to energy assurance and community resilience for the region. States and localities met to share plans and coordinate across boundaries.  Please click here for presentations

PNWER's Legislative Energy Horizon Institute focused a portion on the 60 hour curriculum on energy assurance.  This accredited course led by the University of Idaho teaches state and provincial legislators about energy policy in our region.  For more information please see

In 2009 PNWER hosted a energy assurance and resilience workshop at Puget Sound Energy in Bellevue Washington.  This workshop allowed local energy companies and government to come together to explore regional response, recovery and interdependencies issues.
