CYBERSECURITY SITUATIONAL AWARENESS PROJECT
The Pacific Northwest Economic Region (PNWER) and its Center for Regional Disaster Resilience (CRDR) have been awarded a 2017 National Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP) Security and Resilience Challenge grant. The primary objective of this project is to establish a regional industry information sharing and analysis process and to work with existing regulatory and standards organizations to create a robust cyber resource and information sharing community.

Stakeholder Survey
A survey has been designed to help us develop a baseline of current best practices and investments in cybersecurity by organizations in the Puget Sound Region. The survey also serves as an excellent self-assessment of your cyber security readiness and capabilities. To take the survey click HERE.

Past Projects
Washington Ports Mutual Aid Agreement
This was the direct outgrowth of a long-term effort to achieve regional collaboration across the maritime sector in the Pacific Northwest.  Building on our previous maritime work and as part of a Regional Catastrophic Planning Supply Chain project the CRDR was able to work with other partners to establish and now have adopted, as of Dec. 2014 by 12 ports, a mutual aid agreement that provides a legal foundation for the sharing of all types of resources between ports in an emergency or disaster situation.  Credit must be given to our many regional partners who contributed to the document's creation and adoption.  Special thanks to the Washington Public Ports Association for their role in administering the mutual aid agreements going forward.

The Puget Sound Maritime Regional Transportation Recovery Initiative, FEMA Port Security Grant, 2013-14
The Puget Sound Regional Maritime Transportation Disaster Recovery Initiative Regional Tabletop Exercise was designed to establish a learning environment to enable the maritime transportation community to review and understand the diverse requirements and issues to reinstate their respective operations quickly after a natural disaster. The exercise examined the recovery capability of Puget Sound region, incorporating a financial and economic simulation model to aid participants in identifying potential interdependencies between elements of critical infrastructure and allow clear communication of projected impacts of decision-making during the exercise.

US-Canada Maritime Commerce Resilience Initiative, USCG & Transport Canada, 2012
The United States Coast Guard, Transport Canada and PNWER partnered in the development of a framework for swiftly managing traffic in the event of an emergency, with the goal of expediting maritime commerce recovery through regional collaboration between Canada and the United States. The pilot project included the planning and execution of several cross border, multi-sector workshops and a tabletop exercise which led to the development of a protocol framework for regional maritime commerce recovery.

Background: President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced on February 4, 2011 the Beyond the Border initiative to ensure that the vital economic partnership that joins our two countries continues to be the cornerstone of our economic competitiveness and security as we jointly face the challenges of the 21st century. The Beyond the Border Working Group has proposed the development of a framework for swiftly managing traffic in the event of an emergency, with the goal to expedite maritime commerce recovery through regional collaboration between Canada and the United States. Development of the Framework will be guided by a Pilot Project in British Columbia (BC) Lower Mainland – United States Pacific Northwest region. Specifically, the pilot project will leverage region-based, cross-border maritime resilience and recovery committees. The outcomes of this pilot will guide similar work in the Atlantic and Great Lakes regions beginning in 2013. Click here for final report
